Going Tech-savvy

Hello dear friends,
Wondering what's with the title? Well, I think it's better if you see it for yourselves ;) ---

Yes, a cell phone shaped card it is :D
I saw a cell phone shaped masculine card a while back on pinterest and wanted to make one myself. Most of you who like playing games on your cell phones must be aware of the 'Congrats! You did it!!' message that pops up alongwith the 3 stars after you have won a game ( Well, when I play, it's mostly on the lines of 'Sorry! Better luck next time!' :P)

So I tried to make a congratulatory card with 3 glittery gold stars made up of glitter foam, which were shaped and fuzzy cut, followed by sticking them over the upper third area of the card. Do not miss the yellow glow coming out from these stars.Did some inking for that glow, yes.
Also scored 3 lines on the lower half to add some interest. Finally, hand drew the three buttons below and wrote the sentiment.

I think this card can be both masculine and feminine, men do love gadgets more but who said women are not tech-savvy. :D And shaped cards can be so much fun too!

Thanks so much for visiting me today. Have a great day.

Hope Brightens Up Lives

Hello Everyone,
I recently bought a few sheets of vellum(or the semi-translucent paper) and I'm really enjoying exploring the possibilities with it.  I discovered that when it is inked, it gives a very soft, tinted effect.  It was then that an idea of making this card struck me. Take a look:

I went to the garden with my toddler a few days back and saw these garden lights/lamp posts getting lit up after dusk and surrounded by a swarm of dragonflies , moths and other insects. I wanted to execute these garden lights on my card but wasn't very sure how to, until I discovered the beauty of vellum. Yes, the light that you see is made up of a small piece of vellum inked, shaped, folded and stuck dimensionally over the white card stock. Hand-drew the pole and stamped the dragonflies from Fiskars-butterfly magic stamp set. Finally stamped the sentiment.

If you have been following me for quite a while, you may have noticed that I love to add some hand made dimensional elements to my cards. I have done that with so many of my cards now. And I think this one is my personal favorite of them all, because of the beautiful message it gives, "Hope brightens up everybody's lives'. Couldn't agree more :)

Thanks for visiting me today.

You Are Precious

Hey Everyone,
I was really excited to see two of the amazing challenges coming together and bringing up this fantastic inspiration picture and the sketch by lovely Joni to play along. Yes, I'm talking about Runway Inspired Challenge#58-Trina Turk and Cas(e) this sketch#73.

I was bowled over by the inspiration provided by all the DT members and also by the cards linked to the galleries. After seeing all those amazing cards, I wondered if I could come up with anything close to it, if not better. I struggled for a while, then suddenly started visualising the provided sketch as a lady's head with a flower bow on it. That's how this came up. And I'm really happy it turned out the way I had imagined it to be.

Here's my take:

I took a very minimalistic approach to the inspiration sketch and picture. For making this, I hand-drew the lady silhoutte on a black paper , fuzzy cut it and stuck it over the card base. Yes, I flipped the sketch 180 degrees. Then I punched out two vellum flowers, coloured them with distress and memento inks( spiced marmalade, fired brick distress inks and picked raspberry memento ink-for simulating the floral colours in the pic as much as possible), arranged them over the silhoutte and finally centered a blue coloured pearl over it.I love the coloured vellum, it has a very delicate and dreamy feel to it.  Added some bling and the sentiment finally.

Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving me kind words on my work. :)

Have a great day!

CASology- Garden

Hello everyone,
Quickly sharing a card I made inspired by the cue word- garden at CAS-ology Week#92.

'Garden' made me think of butterflies. Although I don't own too many stamp sets at present, out of the ones I have, I tried to dig out those few stamps that I have been over-looking or didn't include in any of my projects yet. And I did find a few small butterfly and dragonfly stamps and also a sentiment I had never used before from the Fiskars-butterfly magic stamp set, that I think would be perfect for a  CAS card.

After stamping the sentiment and the winged creatures, my plan was to keep it as it is. But somehow, the focal point looked slightly off-centered and didn't quite appeal to me. So I decided to add an inch of a strip of a suitable patterned paper on the inside of the card and sliced off an inch of the edge from the card base on the outside, so that the PP is visible on the outside too. (Hope I make some sense here). Anyway, I think the picture does the talking better and I'm satisfied with the results. What do you think?

Thanks so much for visiting me today. Have a nice day!

Card with Quilling

Hey Everyone,
A quickie today, sharing a card inspired by the following challenges:-
1. Case Study#187( I focused on the red hearts in the inspiration pic)
2.CSCC#2( Heart and quilling from the pic)
3.Itsy Bitsy- Monochromatic( Different shades of Red)

My take:

And below are the pictures I got inspired from:

This design was also inspired by a picture I saw on pinterest some time back.

I followed a tutorial here by Inna to make these poppy flowers. If you are into quilling, I'm sure you must be aware that Inna is a genius when it comes to quilling.

Closer view
I have used 3 mm quilling strips for this entire quilling. And for stamping, have combined the words 'Love' and 'You' from two different stamps by some selective masking.

closer view

Yes, quilling is time consuming for sure but when I see the completed creation, I feel it's worth every minute. What do you think ? :)

Thanks so much visiting me today and have a great weekend!!

Summer CAS card

Hello Friends,
It feels good to be back after a refreshing vacation with near and dear ones. Before I go ahead, I would like to wish all my friends a very Happy Vaisakhi. Vaisakhi is the beginning of a new year observed by the followers of Sikhism. It's one of the most celebrated festivals in our religion.I wish you all a great year ahead, full of love, prosperity and happiness .:)

Sharing a very CAS card that I had made before going on the holiday but didn't get time to post it. Linking it to the following challenges:- Lulupu- Summer CAS cardsATCAS-Far Away , CASology#90-WET and OLS#4- Road Trip(The boat that you see is made by a small piece of paper shaped and stuck  dimensionally directly over the base and the ore is made from a small piece of toothpick, don't know if they are considered to be embellishments or another layer,I would leave that for you to judge if this qualifies a one-layered card)

Here's my take :

The colours I have used from the given colour palette are Blue, yellow, orange, pink and kraft. If somebody asks me where I would like to go to beat the summer heat, my reply would be either some far away destination like hilly region or some relaxing beach with clear blue waters and white sand  where I could just put my feet up and sip on my favorite mocktail and hear the gushing of the waves. ahhhh!!! How I wish to be there right now! (LOL, just back from a holiday and already dreaming about the next one :P) Although it may not be possible right now, atleast I got a feel of it while making this card ;)

As you may have guessed, I have used distress inks to make this beach scenery.

And as for the CASology cue card 'WET', I think it's quite obvious why this card fits there, isn't it? ;)

Did you enjoy this 5 minute escape to a far away beach? :D

Thanks for visiting me today. Have a great day!

Enjoy

Hello Everyone,
Sharing a  card today inspired by  Lulupu Challenge#28- Summer themed CAS card , BGC #49-Grown with love , ATSM#89- CASTime out Challenge #2 and The card Concept-Butterfly theme( According to the style specifications provided here, I guess my card comes under 'Classy and Elegant' category-Shiny and polished look, sparkling embellishments, rich colour scheme, dramatic)

My take on these:

And these are the pictures I got inspired from:
Time out-photo inspiration

The card concept-photo inspirat

Talk about summers and I get drifted back to my childhood days when we used to eagerly await our summer holidays for going to picnics and botanical gardens with family, where chasing butterflies used to be one such  fun activity we kids used to loved getting indulged in ;) I have tried to keep in mind these sweet summer memories while making this card.

The colours on my card- Pink, Blue, Yellow, Orange and white. As you may have guessed already, I have used acetate(OHP sheet) for making the middle transparent panel.
On the inside
For the inside for this card,. I have done masking and inking using distress inks. The inner sentiment(handwritten) is kind of a continuation of the one on the outer side. After sponging the inks, sprayed some water on it and let it dry. Then stamped some leaves randomly using memento dew drop inks-new sprout and bamboo leaves.

The butterfly is stamped using versamark, heat embossed using Lindy's mistletoe silver EP and coloured using memento dew drop inks. The sentiment is stamped and finally added some sequins to balance the design. The butterfly, leaves and the sentiment are all from the same stamp set-Fiskars-Butterfly magic.

Thank you all so much for your love and encouragement always. All the wins and honours make me feel good but the response I get from all of you is what makes it so much meaningful :)  Will be heading off for a mini vacation soon, and that would mean a short break from crafting. Hope to see you all soon.  Until then, happy crafting :)
