Musical Birthday

Hi dear friends,

It's been ages since I played along with the challenges at Lulupu, but this fortnight's challenge-- Black-n-white with a pop of colour--had my creative juices flowing. So I made a card ( No surprises there, I know!!) which is not CAS ( NOW you are surprised, aren't you?? :P) .
Also linking it to Seize the birthday Challenge--Anything goes(No toppings, please)

Please note--- I have used yellow colour in three varying shades along with the black and white, but I have absolutely NO idea, why the dark yellow appears to be orange in the pictures !! It is actually a darker shade of yellow, like that of a ripe mango, I can assure you that. Just clarifying myself because I don't intend to break any challenge rules..lol...:)


I saw this card on the Pinterest but haven't found any tutorials for it. There are some templates available for making this kind of card, but I found it difficult to stick to those measurements so I went with my own.

The shape of the card and the black-n-white keys are cut with the help of my craft scissors. The musical sheet that is stuck over the inner side is hand-drawn ( the one you see on the card box is a printout I had been hoarding since long).

The flowers on the outer panel of the card are quilled using 3 mm quilling strips from the yellow family pack.Added a pocket inside the card for a sentiment tag(and any personal note if you wish) to be inserted. Finished it off with pearls.

I made this card for my younger brother who celebrated his 24th birthday this month. He loves music, so I planned to go for this piano card. You must be thinking -a card for a guy and flowers?? Well, my brother is a biggest admirer and critic of my work, and he likes to see my quilling, so for this particular card, I went beyond the general limitations of gender stereotyping(no butterflies or flowers for a man, pink for girls and blue for guys) and went ahead with what I believed would make him happy. :)

You're Wonderful

Hey wonderful people!

Hope you all are doing great! As for me, I'm taking things easy this weekend and making the best use of the spare time I have in my hands. :) Sharing a card I made inspired by a few challenges.
Here's my card:--

The roses are hand drawn, watercoloured and fussy cut before sticking them over a  doily layered over a textured card panel.I have used watercolour cakes for colouring the roses. The sentiment is NBUS from the Waffle Flower Bowtiful stamp set. Finally, the panel was mounted over a blue card stock and bling was added.

How are you all doing? Today I'm feeling good that I'm able to share something that I made after quite a while. I made a tent card that I first saw on quilling genius Inna's blog here and I followed this tutorial  by Beate John.This is for the first time that I made a card of this kind.
Here's the card:--

If you haven't guessed already, that's a basket full of bright red, ripe, luscious strawberries right in the middle of the card hanging with some natural twine.  :) Hence, that sentiment.

The basket and the strawberries are made by the technique of 3-dimensional quilling using 3mm red quilling strips for the strawberries and 5mm  yellowish-orange quilling strips for the basket.

The patterned papers used here are from Webster pages Allisson Kraft.
This card measures approximately 4 1/4 by 4 1/4 inches.

Challenges I was inspired by:

CASE study:208----I'm a big admirer of Debby Hughes' work, be it her crafting or photography skills. And what I loved the most about the inspiration picture was the rustic feel of the jute bag and the wooden plank  so beautifully complimented by that bright red, lusciously coloured fruit. I tried to incorporate that appeal into my card, well, in my own way.

Squares!

Sharing a one-layered card today that I made for this month's One-layer Simplicity challenge-9----Hip to be Square . I really enjoy making one-layered cards. I find it challenging to limit my card design to a single layer of card base folded  into half. There's no scope for hiding a mistake under the layers, if there's a mistake, you have to start it all over. And when the end result is as effective as you want it to be, all that wasted card stock, time, energy seems to be totally worth it? Don't you agree ? :)

Over to my card:-

This month Ardyth has challenged us to create a one-layered card by incorporating some squares in some way.  I decided to keep the shape of my card square. The focal design was inspired from a graphic logo I saw somewhere long, long back, in some magazine or a newspaper. Initially I planned to stamp that design using a stamp from Waffle Flower Bowtiful stamp set-- 4.5 centimeters long strip of hearts. My plan was to stamp it in different colours to show those four almost-square designs, intertwined with each other. But even after trying for quite a number of times, I just coudn't get the stamping right. So I gave up the stamping idea, and chose the method I love the most, masking and inking.

For masking and inking, I made a square stencil using acetate sheet, so that I can see through where I'm placing it. Masked and inked just three sides of a square, one at a time. Stamped the sentiment from Waffle Flower Bowtiful Stamp set and finished the card off with some rhinestones.

I think it would have looked much better with stamping, but maybe this card was just meant to be this way.

Does this happen to you too, had a plan A in mind but have to choose the plan B because plan A wasn't successful?
