Mother's Day Cards | Sizzix Post

We are observing Mother’s Day in India on the 14th of this month and I came up with a couple of last minute mother’s day card ideas featuring the newly released dies from Sizzix—Butterfly Meadow by Debi Potter and the Sentiment Words Thin by Tim Holtz.

First One:-

Although this one was quick to put together after planning the design, it took a lot of time and brain-storming to finalize the card layout. Yeah, guess that happens when you’re low on creative ideas. I usually find it difficult to incorporate patterned papers on my cards. But I have a huge stock of pretty patterned papers kept in the drawers unused and it hurts me to see them getting dusty. So I challenged myself to try using PPs onto my card.  That beautiful die cut is a single piece with the butterfly, flowers and the leaves. I sponged the die cut using different colours of distress inks with the help of sponge daubers.

And now over to the second one:-

For this card, I wanted to try out a stenciling technique with my distress inks. I started by sponging three colours(abandoned coral, scattered straw, evergreen bough) of distress inks on a 4 by 5 ¼ inches sized Iris Sg card panel.

Then I chose my stencil I wished to use, sprayed some water over the stencil and placed it over the sponged card panel. I saw this technique in one of the recent card-making videos by Jennifer McGuire.
That gave me a beautiful background. The reason why this technique works so beautifully with distress inks (or even distress oxides) is the unique tendency of these inks to react with water.
And because I already had a colourful and striking background, I decided to keep the butterfly meadow die cut uncoloured.

How do you like these cards? Would love to know. :)

Triangular Gift Boxes| Sizzix

Hello friends !!

I feel sorry that this little space of mine is being neglected since quite a while now. I haven't been upto the mark in keeping my blog active with my posts of late. I'm juggling with a number of things at the moment and  I try to squeeze in atleast half an hour everyday for myself, when I can simply create something on my craft table .  Blogging(for me, it includes taking pictures of my work, editing, writing posts) is something I'm struggling with. Need to organise my timings better.

Okay, now moving on to sharing what I made from the new Sizzix Thinlits Die set 5 Pk- Triangular Gift Box(661688)

These gift bags are one-of-a-kind due to their shape. They would make a fantastic choice as party favours.

Here's how I made them :-

This pack contains a total of 5 dies. We need two die cuts from the main rectangular die, which forms the 'body' of the gift bag. The obtained die cuts have pre-scored lines on them, and we simply need to fold along the scored lines to get our box together.

The other four dies comprise of a scalloped border die(we need 4 die cuts from it), a leaf die, a heart and a tag die. The latter three are helpful for embellishing the box.

Check out the pictures above. I think they would explain better.

Products used :-

Patterned paper- Lawn Fawn;
Wooden Clothespin, Baker's Twine for embellishing.

hope you liked these cute little 'Samosa' shaped boxes ;)
Thanks for visiting me today. Have a great day !
